What the critics said about the workshop production of TBA, in the 2009
FronteraFest:
Stephen Pruitt’s TBA was an interesting experiment... as you
closed your eyes, listened to his voice and the music, you found
yourself sailing off out of your own head. Pruitt tells stories of his
youth... and the strange things we hear in the dark, such as the
mystery stations that apparently provide intelligence to spies around
the world. It’s an interesting experience, and Pruitt is a pro at
setting the mood just right.

In "TBA," an experiment by Stephen Pruitt, each audience member
received a radio and headphones. A lullaby began. We sat in the dark
and listened via radio to Pruitt stream consciousness on the meaning of
the words "to be announced." He reflected on how life is full of things
that are TBA, but often they never are announced; they just happen. He
talked about how the deejay's personality used to matter, but now the
only freedom to be found on the radio comes during the programs aired
around 4am. Radio waves became a metaphor for human existence. When the
lights came back on, we were almost reluctant to relinquish our radios,
so pleasant was the experience.

What critics have said about Stephen's other performances...
Catastrophe Theory is the latest informative and ridiculously
entertaining one-man show from that sharp combination of Bill Nye and
David Sedaris, Mr. Stephen Pruitt.
- Austin Chronicle.
Clever, self-effacing and constantly moving, Pruitt manages to make his
own inadequacies poetic.
- Austin Statesman
There's more going on here than meets the eye or the ear, and the
stories Pruitt tells culminate in a life lesson as valuable as any that
can be learned.
- Barry Pineo, Austin Chronicle
Pruitt's sincerity was a rare and refreshing reminder of how theatre
acts as a testimonial space for sharing with strangers insights on the
making and sustaining of artistic destiny.
- Heather Barfield Cole, Austin Chronicle
It's both mesmerizing and unexpected.
